The nation recently celebrated six decades of independence.

Many of us have played a small part in different ways in our quest for a brighter dawn in Malaysia.

Come mid-September, we look forward with even greater hope of seeing Malaysia Day draw the forces of Good over Evil in our resolve to build a better Malaysia for everyone.

It has been crystal clear that corrupt leaders, profiteering civil servants, greedy business people and hollow citizens are the ones who have robbed and ruined our nation and hindered us from becoming a just and progressive society.

It is now up to all caring and morally committed people in the land to push on in the coming general election, which could be held soon, despite attempts by leaders to keep the date a secret.

The lalang (fence sitters) must know that indifference, defeatism and ‘mindless inertia only opens up the country to even more corruption by those who are easily corruptible.

Worse are those who live in a world of make-believe, who ignore all the massive corruption that has robbed millions of people’s hope for a meaningful, fulfilling livelihood.

In Malaysia, a nation blessed with abundant, natural wealth, no one should be left in the shadows of struggle. Yet, each day, more and more people are sliding into the pit of extreme poverty.

Those few who have been blessed with wealth, education and a good life should not ignore the moral calling to give back at least something to society.

So let’s be with one another in our march to cleanse this nation of robbers, thieves and parasites. Let’s also cleanse ourselves of cancerous inaction.

No nation can rise and be a beacon if the wealth of the nation is hoarded and stolen.

No entitled political party can enjoy a ‘right to serve’ (as claimed by some) if it continues to cling to a self-serving agenda of deceit.

No corrupt leader can continue to thrive if the people rise against the absence of accountability.

Power is not a birthright. Power can only be given by the people to their leaders in return for the benefit that they bring to the people.

Let’s believe that 2022 will be a defining year in our history, one that will reshape our future.  To love Malaysia is to love ourselves, our families, our relatives and our fellow sojourners in a way that is consistent with the great moral, spiritual and religious truths that many of us hold dear.
