Since the gripping wee hours of 9 May 2018, Malaysians continue to be jubilant over the fast-tracked decisions and action under Mahathir’s determined, seasoned and maverick leadership, writes JD Lovrenciear.

On 9 September 2015, as Dr Mahathir Mohamad touched down at Subang Airport, fewer than a hundred people gathered outside the fencing of the airport, braving the blazing sun to welcome him with pining hope.

Capturing the deep-seated fears mixed with hope, I joined the relatively small crowd with a handmade banner declaring “Tun U R Not Alone”.

Fear gripped me for it was then the early stages of an uncertain plan to unravel the 1MDB debacle as Mahathir returned from what was then speculated to be an ‘overseas mission’. But a passion for justice overruled all my thoughts about the risk I was taking.

Today, about 30 days since Mahathir has led Malaysians down the path towards the full realisation of that hope, we can all stand tall and give our nonagenarian prime minister a standing ovation.

So far, since the gripping wee hours of 9 May 2018, Malaysians continue to be jubilant over the fast-tracked decisions and action under Mahathir’s determined, seasoned and maverick leadership. Despite the odds and all the brickbats by various quarters, this is indeed a ‘new’ Mahathir well fitting the birth of a new Malaysia.

As we celebrate the breaking news during each passing day over the last month, may God bless Mahathir. We must thank his immediate family members for allowing us to have him back on this high-speed chase to nail all the corrupt.

In particular, we must thank Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali for her great sacrifices in this season of express demands. Her willingness to roll into the fast lane by caring for her spouse and being by his side, day in day out, inspires those of us who are determined to heal our nation.

May the months ahead continue to see great progress and give Malaysians and the new government every reason to mark our 55th Malaysia Day in a truly grand way.

God bless Mahathir.
