The parks in Bangsar are excellent venues for recreational and sporting activities.
Many older adults flock to these parks almost daily for a banter.
While adults exercise and walk briskly in these parks, children play on the swings and seesaws.
These parks are well maintained and patronised by people of all ages, who enjoy the many attractions offered.
But the upkeep of these parks is onerous. The parks are full of fast-growing, leafy trees. A key task is to clear the large amounts of fallen leaves and keep the park safe for users.

The park on Bangkung Road in Bukit Bandaraya is a case in point. Contract workers use blowers periodically to keep the place tidy. But with the heavy fall of leaves, regular maintenance is necessary so that the park is safe for the young and old.
Sweepers armed with brooms should also be deployed to clear the walkways and exercise areas. The shrubs and flowering plants can be regularly pruned and fertilised so that they look their best.
Following recent downpours, leaves have clogged the drains. Large amounts of leaves can be found along the fencing, including the section in front of the primary school. The mini-drains are full of leaves and layers of mud. One can even see mosquitoes breeding in the area.
The trimmings from trees in recent months remain uncollected and lie in heaps, posing a danger to children and older adults.
Major storms have uprooted several trees, but the trunks have not yet been uprooted nor the broken pavements and stairs fixed. The children’s swings have fortunately been fixed.
The personal touch of an experienced and caring parks superintendent would make a big difference. Residents have suggested that parks superintendents who have some background in the management of parks could oversee the care and maintenance of these lovely parks like one sees in major cities around the world, instead of allowing contractors free rein.
It is hoped that the authorities will prioritise regular remedial and maintenance work to keep the parks attractive. This will encourage even more residents to frequent these lovely spots in what is a lush green lung in the city.
In contrast, the parks in other parts of Kuala Lumpur, like in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, are well maintained. Hopefully, the parks in Bangsar can be maintained in the same way.
