Pas ‘crusade’ march a step too far

If we continue to allow the party to get away with such antics, it will only be a matter of time before investors flee our country

Reports of Terengganu Pas members marching in public with swords, spears and shields cannot be regarded as a joke.

Although it may appear like a historical, comical parody of a ‘crusade’ from ancient times, we should certainly view it as a serious matter.

So, what is Pas trying to tell us?

If DAP members had marched with spears, red head bands and loud drums, would such a march have been tolerated?

If Bersih had organised a march with its participants brandishing machetes and sticks, would that too be acceptable?

Or what if Umno members who do not favour their current president had raised their keris in the air to the beat of war drums? Would that have been acceptable?

How more brazen and offensive could Pas be? How far will Pas leaders go to incite their followers?

One wonders how the police could have allowed such a march to proceed. Why did they not send in the water cannons to disperse this affront to national peace and security?

Law-abiding people and leaders should step forward to condemn this provocative march organised by some Pas leaders.

Further, law enforcers who had failed to act in the interests of peace and security should be hauled up to explain their inaction.

If we continue to allow Pas to get away with such antics, it will only be a matter of time before investors flee our country.

Isn’t this happening in the US supposedly a great democracy? It is not investments at stake but rather the political climate. Look at Myanmar: real war. There, it is encouraging foreign investors to leave.
