The concept of a caretaker government only comes into play when the state assembly is dissolved, says Choo Sing Chye.

Abdul Aziz Bari is wrong; the Perak government is not a caretaker government as the present menteri besar still commands the majority in the Perak State Assembly.

The concept of a caretaker government only comes into play when the state assembly is dissolved.

The present Perak government comes under the political label of Pakatan Harapan, a coalition of four parties, the DAP, PKR, Amanah and Bersatu.

Bersatu pulled out of Pakatan Harapan, but the menteri besar from Bersatu has not not pulled out or resigned from the menteri berar’s post. He still enjoys the support of DAP, PKR, Amanah and Bersatu state assembly members.

The government is still intact until such time when the number changes, ie the menteri besar is still the menteri besar and not a caretaker one.
