Please do not get me wrong. I feel for the fishermen whose livelihood will be destroyed and they and their families will have to adapt to a different lifestyle. Yet, as it stands the PSR is a go. Whether it will really be a boon to Penang’s development or a bane only time will tell
1/2 :I just read the following input about our “Forest City” in the SCMP: “This self-styled “eco-city” is being built on 162 million cubic metres of shipped-in sand that has already had a damaging impact on the surrounding marine environment. The causeway built to facilitate the land reclamation for the islands cuts right across the Tanjung Kupang seagrass meadows, a precious habitat that helps to stabilise the sea floor and protect coastal erosion, while mangroves have been trampled to make way for the development’s prefabrication factories. Reclamation began without the required environmental impact assessment, and the effects have already been felt by local fishermen, who complain of reduced catches ..” Where were the environmentalists..
