It was an incredibly touching moment to watch Anwar Ibrahim being sworn in as the tenth prime minister.
Many of us – whether we like him more or like him less – have followed that long rocky road of his political life from his student days of protesting for Hamid Tuah’s pioneer settlers up north, to his position as deputy prime minister, to his sacking and imprisonment.
That long stretch of 24 years has been deeply etched in Malaysian political history.
I felt quite near to tears not only for Anwar and his family, but for a Better Malaysia. Hope also engenders tears.
No human being is perfect but may each person in this beloved land – of whatever race, religion or social class – pledge anew his or her oath to uphold kindness, integrity, respect and deep compassion for our fellow countrymen and women.

Let’s also remember the role of ordinary people as well. Many of them have to change their bribe-giving habits and their racist thinking and take responsibility for daily political acts like making sure their elected representatives are working.
Politics surrounds the people daily and not just during elections.
AGENDA RAKYAT - Lima perkara utama

- Galakkan pembangunan saksama, lestari serta tangani krisis alam sekitar
- Raikan kerencaman dan keterangkuman
- Selamatkan demokrasi dan angkatkan keluhuran undang-undang
- Lawan rasuah dan kronisme
Totally awed by the whole Malaysian exercise in democracy. Unlike the US where the system is rigged to center on just two parties Malaysia’s multi party set up is a manifestation of genuine democracy where the bulk of the citizens’ political beliefs are taken into consideration. A true model for the whole world and a sterling rebuff to totalitarian systems everywhere. Kudos.
Beautifully etched Dr. Wong. What you wrote is brief but loud and resonates like the pulse in every caring Malaysian. Thank you.
