How should MPs behave in Parliament?

Muhyiddin must publish the names of the MPs supporting him to establish the truth, writes P Ramakrishnan.

Dr Mahathir Mohamad has published the names of 114 MPs supporting him as the eighth prime minister of Malaysia.

Muhyiddin Yassin has not done so even though it is claimed he is supported by 114 MPs.

Who is to be believed?

When both the figures are added up the total comes to 228 MPs. But Parliament has only 222 MPs.

Someone is not telling the truth or has deliberately inflated his support to mislead the Agong! Malaysians are entitled to know the truth. They are entitled to know who is not speaking the truth.

Mahathir has dared to publish the names of the 114 MPs supporting him [now reduced to 113].

Likewise, Muhyiddin should publish the names of the MPs supporting him if he truly has their support. This is very important to establish the truth so that the one commanding majority support is rightly appointed the eight PM of Malaysia.

It looks there may be a few MPs supporting both sides – which doesn’t speak well for their intelligence. They cannot have their feet in both boats. It is stupid to be neutral in times such as this when the occasion calls upon them to stand up and be counted.

The current upheaval and the betrayal of the democratic process is something voting Malaysians will not forget or forgive. They will remember this treacherous move to overthrow a duly elected democratic government by foul means. Come GE15, those responsible for this betrayal will pay the price. Bet on it.

In these trying times, I’m reminded of this saying: “If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.”
