Anwar Ibrahim, the MP for Port Dickson, is reportedly going all out to expand the free online tuition programme throughout Negri Sembilan and the country once he has the necessary funding.
But why are parents overwhelmingly subscribing to this practice that has spread all over the country?
Much has been written in the letters columns of newspapers in the past.
Parents scrounge to pay for tuition classes. Teachers make money from tuition classes. In the end the children are the victims chasing after grades.

On average, a pupil only gets home with just barely six hours to sleep each day – after time spent time travelling to and from normal school and tuition classes, and the six to 10 hours spent both in school and at tuition.
Nobody is asking why schoolchildren are unable to master maths, science and languages while at school, six hours per day, five days a week.
If our children can only excel because of tuition classes held outside of school hours, is there not enough evidence to tell us that their school life has been less than productive and has failed its very purpose in the first place?
And now even the prime minister-in-waiting is pushing hard for tuition classes.
Think of the funds that will go into these ‘free’ online tuition classes. Could we not use those funds to create a better environment within normal schools?
Even though we all know that the Malaysian school system has deteriorated, we choose instead to find our way out by promoting tuition classes to help our children get the grades.
At some point, we have to hold ourselves responsible for creating a generation of adults who never had a normal childhood.
The social misfits that will blossom from this flawed agenda will set the nation in a vulnerable situation but by then, it will be too late for remedial action.
