Uncertainty over Malaysia’s PM succession an increasing liability

Anwar faces a daunting challenge

The longer politicians and their parties manoeuvre while making contradictory statements, the more jittery the socioeconomic landscape becomes, writes JD Lovrenciear.

The speculation over who will be the next prime minister of Malaysia has not abated nor have the repeated assurances quelled the uncertainty.

Will Anwar Ibrahim take over? Will Dr Mahathir Mohamad hand over the baton – and, if so, when? These questions have spread from the corridors of the various political camps into coffee shops all across the nation. The speculation has fuelled uncertainty, which has also left investors holding their breath. As the clock ticks, it has become more of a mystery with believable answers eluding the people.

Why does it have to be like this? Can we not be more certain, reassuring and transparent so that businesses can plan their strategies with more certainty? Can we not cut the political mystery and let the people feel more assured about the march to a new Malaysia? Don’t voters deserve to see the Pakatan Harapan promises being constructively executed without the politicking and jostling and mystery?

The longer the politicians and political parties manoeuvre while now and then making contradictory statements, the more jittery the socioeconomic landscape becomes.

Both Mahathir and Anwar are not of any help either here. They should be told politely that it is not about timing or unfinished business or who has the legitimate power to decide. It is about honouring the voters’ trust in Pakatan Harapan at the 2018 general election.

Do our leaders realise that all this manoeuvring is opening up huge windows of opportunity for those besieged by allegations and charges of corruption?

Don’t try telling the people that politics is like that.

Is it not a worldwide culture that in politics there may always be some politicians [in power who] think [and act as] that they own the country and can do whatever they wish [on the justification that they have] legal and moral mandate of the rakyat [as they were elected by them] [and that as makers of laws they may have made laws to either exempt themselves or that they may be beyond laws].
[For evidence – just see the many political leaders of some countries be they developed or developing. NO REFERENCE TO ANY SPECIFIC COUNTRY OF POLITICIANS]

IN LOVE-WAR-POLITICS – ALL MAY BE FAIR but DO CITIZENS WANT SUCH CASES
