One cannot downplay or camouflage the sense of jubilation permeating all across the country.
News of the royal decree followed by the swearing-in ceremony at the palace that made Anwar Ibrahim Malaysia’s 10th prime minister is by any measure historic.
It would not be an understatement to state that Anwar has already scored several successes even before entering the prime minister’s office in Putrajaya.
First, by earning the trust and consent of the King and fellow rulers and by subsequently being sworn in as the nation’s 10th prime minister, Anwar has helped the entire nation (save for a bunch of uncultured politicians) to cherish the country’s constitutional monarchy.
Second, he has through his innate leadership abilities, ensured the cohesiveness of the coalition under Pakatan Harapan as it marched through the polls.

Third, Anwar has ignited a wave of hope for the nation, as can be witnessed by the jubilation expressed in social media messages exchanged among the people.
Fourth, he has immediately earned the respect for our nation and its people from leaders around the world as seen from the accolades pouring in.
Fifth, promises of collaboration and trade are being registered that augur well for Malaysia.
Sixth, the immediate bouncing back of the stock market and the strengthening of the ringgit are being ascribed to Anwar becoming prime minister.
Seventh, for the first time in our history since independence under Tunku Abdul Rahman, we are witnessing how political blocs are stepping forward to work in unison under Anwar as their leader for the good of the nation and its people (except Perikatan Nasional, which includes Pas, and perhaps a motley group of politicians who seem adamant about throwing a spanner in the works).
Eight, Anwar has scored an unprecedented benchmark for a functioning democracy by announcing immediately, hours after his swearing in as PM, that he would face a confidence vote as the first order of business when Parliament convenes on 19 December.
Ninth, he has given Malaysians a solid lesson on the merits of persevering, relentlessly and consistently in thoughts, words and deeds in order to succeed with the nation at heart. This lesson should go down well with the business community, the civil service and all young aspiring people as we start to rebuild the nation.
Last but not least, our incoming prime minister has demonstrated the power of goodwill and magnanimity that is needed to build and sustain a thriving, progressive and harmonious Malaysia.
His philosophy of inclusiveness that cements his leadership has no parallel so far in this land.
For all of these 10 reasons, many in Malaysia will stand by him and ensure that, on the first day of Parliament, thumping ‘ayes’ will ring out and reverberate across the nation in support of Anwar and his message of hope.
