What? RM3bn in ‘leakages’ don’t warrant a parliamentary debate?

The opposition MPs' resistance to a debate has riled up many ordinary people

People are in disbelief over the latest stance by the opposition bloc, which is resisting the call for a parliamentary debate on the 2020 and 2021 auditor general’s reports.

In his Budget 2023 speech, the prime minister said the reports had shockingly revealed RM3bn in ‘leakages’ – loss of public money, wastage and improper payments.

The opposition MPs’ resistance to a debate in Parliament has riled up many ordinary people. Are these MPs saying that the humongous losses of public funds – which could have improved the lives of the people – should not be surgically diagnosed in Parliament?

Which political school did these opposition MPs go to? Don’t they realise that, in many nations that uphold good governance, MPs debate such losses of public funds in their parliaments?

Is this what the ‘Malay proclamation’ mantra is turning out to be? God forbid.

Year after year, many have complained about the incomprehensible losses, abuse of power, maladministration, wastage and suspected corrupt dealings captured in the auditor general’s reports.

The national commitment to reshape our future for the better would gain ground if Malaysian MPs had the courage, commitment and conscience to debate the auditor general’s reports in Parliament, so that accountability and transparency can prevail.

Can we not see the depth of the rot that is rocking the nation? Stop thrashing the nation’s reputation in the eyes of the progressive world. Enough.

Everyone with a conscience, those who value ethics – along with their leaders – must converge and banish crooked politicians once and for all. Otherwise, we will continue to sink into misery for many more decades to come.

C Northkote Parkinson said that for politicians discussing public finances management may be on the following premise:

HIGHER THE AMOUNT LOWER THE INTEREST but
SMALLER THE AMOUNT HIGHER THE INTEREST

CNK gave example of
BUDGET OF STG10Mpounds FOR A NUCLEAR POWER STATION WAS APPROVED WITHIN AN HOUR [as none had any idea about the project] but

BUDGET OF STG3K FOR CONSTRUCTION OF A BYCYCLE SHED REQUIRED SEVERAL MEETINGS BEFORE APPROVAL
[as all members had wide knowledge about the project as they had paid for it in their houses.]

[A Rotary Club had five meeting to approve the donation of a bus stop costing RM3k while the professional time cost of the meetings was estimated as RM20K.

Bless all

PN’s MPs have totally forgotten that they are accountable for their actions, not just accepting tens of thousands (maybe more than a hundred thousand for some) gaji buta without an honest day’s work. Muhyiddin was always escaping Parliament sessions when he was PM and found relaxing at home. He has no interest and incapable to lead but just wanted easy income and fringe benefits. He is not every Malaysian’s PM, and show no remorse ….This wrongdoings are making the non-Muslim very confused of the understanding of Islam, just confusion of the “Alxxx” word!
