Why are they unable to report for duty when some 16 million workers across the country would not dare to play truant, wonders JD Lovrenciear.

Of late, the many empty seats in Parliament have been the subject of much concern.

Wonder where our elected MPs are. Are they unable to report for duty when some 16 million workers across the country would not dare to play truant?

If parliamentarians do not subscribe to the onus on them to attend Parliament nor value the significance of being present in the august hall where good governance begins, how can we continue to hope in them?

If attendance in Parliament comes second to all other appointments that MPs have to keep, then how is the voice of the people to be effectively heard?

It is long overdue for the government and all elected leaders to have the moral responsibility to reveal their attendance records to the public.

Will the leadership make this a reality or are we in for more empty promises?
