Turtle Shell says the Malaysian prime minister could learn a thing or two from Trump’s listening session with school shooting survivors.
Let me start by stating that I am not a Trumpist – I dislike his persona intensely and I feel he is hardly presidential in his actions especially his tweets!
But Trump should be commended for holding an emotional session with school shooting survivors and their relatives.
Yes, there are those who praise him for being a good president (yuks!). But there are also those who speak their minds on live television about what is lacking in their government’s actions in trying to prevent mass shootings, those who disagree with Trump’s suggestion to arm teachers and administrators.
Our country is nowhere near the political maturity of the United States. But I wish our prime minister would come down from his pedestal and really talk with the rakyat – not to the rakyat. Yes, really have discussions with us, not stage-managed public relations meetings. If he does that, he wouldn’t be making a big deal to the Rakyat about buying a whole chicken for RM1.

Perhaps the prime minister remembers too well the incident in one of his staged sessions when one of his supporters smacked a member of the audience for raising an uncomfortable question. The prime minister’s (non)response then was deplorable.
Why are there no open discussions on the many issues facing our country? If the government’s actions are above board, it should be able to explain them to the Rakyat.
I know I am asking too much of the current prime minister. He has too much baggage that will not stand the critical eye of a non-compliant audience. The 1MDB scandal, the Felda land scandal and the jailing of Rafizi Ramli easily come to mind. How can he explain away these issues to a critical and questioning audience?

It is predicted that after the U.S. mid-term elections in November this year, the Democrats will control the Congress and Senate which will checkmate Herr Drumph on many decisions, thus rendering him a lame duck president.
The world can be glad that Herr Drumph is more hot air than action, or we could be in World War III right now. If liberal-imperialist Hillary Clinton had instead won, there could well be more U.S. imperialist wars, direct or proxy and more interference in internal affairs, and quite possibly WW III too. This woman is evil.

My Iraqi friend welcomed Trump’s win, saying that he would mess up the U.S. Keep up the good work Herr Drumph!
I really hope it will come to pass that the Democrats will control the Congress and Senate after November elections.
Who knows? Yes, you may be right that Herr Drumph is just messing up the US rather than what Hillary Clinton may have done!!
Even now, the courts, Congress and Senate have checked Trump on certain issues.
Elected leaders holding listening sessions are great, but whether they follow through with solutions is another question.
My residents association has had several dialogue sessions with our state assemblymen, local councillor and MPs, sometimes over lunch or tea and they have done some things we have asked.
