For reasons beyond the comprehension of many Malaysians, Malaysia’s little ice princess who is catapulting to prominence in Europe, is regrettably receiving a subdued reception at home.
Free Malaysia Today has reported that nine-year-old C Sree Abiraame, who is currently making waves skating on ice, has taken part in competitions in Estonia and Lithuania, both snow-laden countries.
She thrilled locals, finishing second in her first international meet, the Narva Cup in Estonia on 30-31 October, followed by a third placing in the Tomas Cup in Lithuania on 13 November.
On 21 November, Sree turned winner when she lifted the Talinn Trophy in Estonia. Remarkably, she came out tops despite slipping and falling – a testament to her excellent all-round performance during the event.
This is definitely an outstanding feat by any measure for a little girl hailing from the tropics. Doing so well in three competitions against locals who are used to wintry conditions speaks volumes for this young girl’s tenacity.

Even more remarkable for Sree was that was she was infected with Covid only a few months ago while training in Latvia. She showed admirable courage and determination to recover from this setback and win against the odds.
Shockingly, there has been a deafening silence in many other news portals and much of social media about her achievements.
Shree, who is already in the Malaysia Book of Records, has a dream. Despite her family’s financial constraints, she wants to take part in the most prestigious competitions, the 2024 Winter Youth Olympics in Korea and the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy.
Will the Ministry of Youth and Sports recognise her achievements and explain how it can assist her in realising her dream?

The fact is that race and religion rule the people and the country. One can expect not to be recognized by your own country if you are not one of them.!
Excellent achievement Shree Abiramee. It goes to show that financial constraints propel a great desire to excel and drive dreams conquering all hurdles.
