In 1988, the suspension of Lord President Salleh Abas derailed a full Supreme Court bench from hearing the pivotal Umno 11 case, potentially determining Malaysia’s legitimate prime minister.

Instead, a different panel led by his accuser heard it. Five judges were also suspended, crippling the judiciary and triggering a constitutional crisis.
