Demonstrators across Israel are demanding an end to the war in Gaza and the immediate return of hostages held by militants.
Protest organisers have called for a nationwide strike, vowing to “shut down the country” in defiance of the government’s plan to expand military operations.
The new offensive, approved by Israel’s security cabinet, would see Gaza City seized and its residents forcibly displaced to the south.
