Anwar Ibrahim has claimed he has a solid majority (majoriti kukuh), which he says means Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s government has fallen. “We have a strong, formidable majority – I am not talking about four, five, six” – though it doesn’t come up to a two-thirds majority.
Cries of “Reformasi!” punctuated the press conference.
What is likely to have tilted the balance is the Sarawak MPs who are believed to be uncomfortable with the Perikatan Nasional government and could switch sides.
“With a clear and indisputable support and majority behind me, the government led by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has fallen,” Anwar said
Anwar said he would announce the exact figures to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong first. Though Anwar has an appointment to meet the King yesterday, it had to be postponed as the King was being treated at the National Heart Institute.

When asked by journalists, Anwar said his line-up of MPs does not include former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad – and he is willing to work with Muhyiddin Yassin, if the latter is open to it.
He said the new government would not include previous defectors, to cheers from the crowd. “The government will represent all people, with majority Malay-Bumiputra and fair representation of all races in this country.”
“I promise to form a government with integrity and commitment to address the crisis that befell the country, and put an end to corruption and fight for the wellbeing of the people.”
It remains to be seen what Muhyiddin will announce at his press conference this afternoon and whether he intends to dissolve Parliament to pave the way for a fresh general election.
