Around the world, anxiety is rising. Incomes are stagnant, jobs are unstable, the cost of living keeps climbing.

And into this moment of instability and uncertainty, comes an idea that’s been dismissed, debated, and now increasingly taken seriously: a basic income for all.

Astro Awani’s Melisa Idris speaks with Prof Guy Standing, a labour economist, author and founding member of the Basic Income Earth Network, an NGO that campaigns for a basic income for all as a right.

Prof Standing was an economic advisor in the Prime Minister’s Department in Malaysia in the 1980s, and has worked as a social and labour policy advisor with various other governments around the world, including the US and South Africa.
