Budget 2021: A no-confidence vote for Anwar?

Budget 2021 has been passed in the Dewan Rakyat by a razor-thin margin – 111 MPs in favour and 108 against, with one absentee. Considering this result is a far cry from the one promised by Pakatan Harapan, BFM asks Bridget Welsh, honorary research associate at the University of Nottingham’s Asia Research Institute, what this result says about the leadership of both Anwar Ibrahim and Muhyiddin Yassin.

Anwar can be the PM if he promises to free Najib & Zahid from the current charges they are facing. Is that what we want? That’s exactly what Muhyiddin is doing now. I’m sure umno has bargain something along this line for their leaders. But Anwar can’t do that. On the one hand the PH coalition pushing him to replace PN government, on the other hand they don’t want him to work with umno. If not with some umno MP’s who else can he work with? Shafee Afdal is a poor replacement for Anwar. He can’t even defend his government at his own backyard how can we expect him to garner all round support from the peninsula voters, especially the rural malay votes which are crucial to win GE.

It is obviously a no confidence vote against Anwar.
He should be able to see the writing on the wall, & retire.
It is no shame to have tried and failed.
But it is obvious Anwar’s meeting with destiny had passed, it is time to pass the baton to another leader(of course, definitely not that evil dictator).
