When the National Heritage Department confirmed that the Chinese soup called bak kut teh as a heritage food of Malaysia, some ethnic Malay politicians and professors opposed the move under the reason that it is unIslamic and that the Chinese soup is not “old enough” to be known as heritage.
In this video, Prof Tajuddin Rasdi explores this issue, using simple Islamic values and the idea of a shared history of the Malay world in the many multi-faith kingdoms of the past in the peninsula.
