The Mufti Bill, which will be tabled for a second and third reading in this parliamentary session, has been receiving a lot of pushback from various parties on the grounds that it is unconstitutional, non-inclusive and would give powers to religious authorities with legal immunity.
These arguments have been dismissed by Religious Affairs Minister Na’im Mokhtar, but these concerns still persist.
BFM speaks to Rozana Isa, executive director of Sisters In Islam, to understand the various facets of this bill, and why there has been so much opposition to it. The interview starts at 22:40 minutes.
