We will start with the late Martin Khor’s words on happiness. They are the basis for his thoughts and ideas and how he navigated the world in the face of adversities.
In his ethical framework, Martin championed the belief that true fulfillment blossoms within human relationships. Yet, beyond the realm of personal connections, he envisioned “Others” with a capital O, encompassing society, the global community and the intricate web of our shared existence.
This, according to his line of thought, would lead us to position ourselves in the world and act against injustices across social markers, territories, religions and nationalities in pursuant of justice and equity.
Yet, amidst his message of harmony, Martin was unafraid to confront the harsh realities of our world – to call out the injustices, to challenge the status quo and to advocate for systemic change on a global scale. In his final breaths of wisdom, he bequeathed to us a legacy of courage and compassion, a beacon of hope in the face of adversity.
In honouring Martin’s legacy, let us heed his call to embrace the profound beauty of our interconnectedness and to tread the path of righteousness with unwavering resolve.
