At long last, the lowering of voting age from 21 to 18 and automatic voter registration has been gazetted and was officially implemented on 15 December.
This means that the upcoming Sarawak state election was the last time Malaysian youths aged 18-21 missed out on an election.
BFM catches up with Qyira Yusri, co-founder of Undi18 to discuss how she’s feeling after tirelessly pushing for this for five years and what this could mean for the political landscape in the future.

Excellent discussion #undi18. What they need to also stress is for the young voters (18-20 yrs) is to be informed from now on. Our responsibility as voters is to know what is going on, to read, to be critiques of politics and to learn how to be discerning. This comes from political awareness. Tharma mentioned this in April. Needs to be reiterated consistently.
