In the largest nationwide uprising since the 1960s, protesters shut down cities across the United States over the weekend following the police killing of George Floyd, an African American man in Minneapolis.
“These are not just repeats of past events,” Princeton University scholar-activist Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor, author of Race For Profit, told Democracy Now!
“These are the consequences of the failures of this government and the political establishment … to resolve these crises.”

Police brutality is real, everywhere. It is especially so in the US where innate police brutality, as countenanced with the paraphernalia of the badge, the gun and the police vehicle, is married to racism. And most cops are white, even in areas where blacks predominate. The current protests degenerating into outright free for all looting and thievery is just that, an opportunity to steal.

Racialism may be a common culture in many countries though with variances. However all it may take is one spark to turn a peaceful protest into a violent case where looters cand and do take advantage. In most cases it may continue for some time due to lack of action by leaders [who may chose not to do anything for various reasons including personal interest] and then it may cease on their own as most involved in protests may return to their previous lifestyles.
