Israel bombing hospitals has become the norm

Speaking at a screening of the documentary Under Fire: Israel’s War on Medics, Middle East Eye’s editor-in-chief David Hearst unpicked the political and international dynamics fuelling Israel’s war on Gaza, arguing that global impunity has enabled the strip’s destruction.

Presented by award-winning journalist Hind Hassan, the documentary examines Israel’s destruction of the healthcare system in Lebanon and Gaza, shedding light on tactics such as ‘double-tap strikes’ targeting emergency responders attempting to rescue civilians.

The documentary was followed by a panel moderated by MEE presenter Mohammed Hashem, including Hind Hassan, reconstructive surgeons Ghassan Abu Sitta and Victoria Rose, and UK Human Rights Watch director Yasmine Ahmed, discussing Israel’s dismantling of Gaza’s healthcare system over the past 18 months.
