During his acceptance speech at the 2024 Academy Awards, director Jonathan Glazer addressed Israel’s war on Gaza.
Glazer’s Holocaust drama The Zone of Interest received the award for Best International Feature.
In his speech, the British director expressed his refusal to let Jewish identity and the Holocaust be co-opted by an occupation that has led to conflict and victimisation of innocent people, referencing both the victims of the 7 October incident in Israel and the ongoing attacks on Gaza.
The audience cheered as Glazer emphasised the need to resist the dehumanisation of all victims affected by these conflicts.
