Dr Kua Kia Soong is a prominent Malaysian social activist, researcher, and former Petaling Jaya MP (1990-1995). He has made significant contributions to human rights advocacy and social justice in Malaysia.
As a former director of the human rights group Suaram, Kua has been at the forefront of advocating for civil liberties, democratic rights and justice.
Beyond his role in Suaram, Kua has a rich background. He was also the director of the Huazi Research Centre (1985-1990), where he engaged in critical research and analysis related to social issues.
He holds a PhD. in sociology and has lectured at institutions such as the National University of Singapore. His scholarly work has contributed to a deeper understanding of social issues and their impact on Malaysian society.
Kua is currently the principal of New Era College, an institution that plays a crucial role in providing education to marginalised communities. New Era College is community-funded and emphasises inclusivity, making it an essential institution for promoting equitable access to education.
