In a powerful display of solidarity, an estimated half a million people recently filled the streets of central London to mark the 77th anniversary of the Nakba (the 1948 Catastrophe) and protest Israel’s ongoing war on Gaza.
The historic pro-Palestine demonstration called for urgent and decisive action from the UK government – including the immediate enforcement of a full arms embargo on Israel.
Reporting from the scene, Middle East Eye captured a wide range of voices, from Jewish protesters declaring “Not in our name” to international allies like Greg Stoker, a former US Special Forces operative who traced his solidarity with Palestine back to his military experience and disillusionment with US foreign policy.
British activist Chris Kunzler pointed to a glaring gap in UK education on Palestinian history, while Palestinian ambassador Dr Husam Zomlot called the march the largest and most sustained solidarity movement in British history. Despite growing censorship, Zomlot affirmed that the movement is gaining momentum, with people across the UK and beyond continuing to speak out and demand justice.
