Last week, the Socialist Party of Malaysia (PSM) and the Government Contract Workers Network (JPKK) submitted a memorandum to Human Resource Minister Steven Sim, urging the government to increase the minimum wage to RM2,000. (Currently, the minimum wage is set at RM1,500.)
Earlier in March, Sim mentioned that the government will review the minimum wage this year, but there have been no updates on the matter since.
BMF speak to Saratbabu Raman, chief of PSM’s worker’s bureau about their push for a higher minimum wage.
