Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has announced that the long-awaited Malaysian Media Council Bill is expected to be tabled in Parliament in June.
This is coming on the same week that the government launched the updated version of a media ethics code, which received strong pushback from media activist groups for concerns it would curb media freedom.
BFM discusses the significance of this bill being tabled, and the discussions that led up to it before talking to independent journalist Zan Azlee about how these reforms will affect journalism.
