Pakatan Harapan was caught off guard and did not have time to submit their choice of a Dewan Rakyat Speaker candidate, said Mohamed Ariff Md Yusof in an interview with the Malaysian Insight.
He said the Perikatan Nasional government had submitted a motion to change the Speaker and the candidate well within the 14-day notice period before the Dewan Rakyat convened on 13 July.
Ariff saw it from a mile away that the PN government had wanted to remove him as Parliament Speaker. The former court of appeal judge said there were clear-cut signs pointing to his removal as Speaker even before the July sitting.
Ariff’s main mission when he took up the Speaker’s job was to ensure the institution was not a rubber stamp of the government. The 71-year-old was glad he could change the public’s perception of Parliament by making it more accessible to the people.

Don’t do injustice to Heaven. Do not build distrut to one who has performed well is the past. People are grateful to him for the good he had done for the highest August House. I do not personally know him but I am grateful to his contributions.
