The youth wing of Perikatan Nasional recently announced its plans to hold a rally to protest the decision to grant Deputy PM Zahid Hamidi a “discharge not amounting to an acquittal” on 47 corruption charges.

Following that, the deputy police chief issued a warning that action would be taken against rally organisers and participants, as they had not received a permit application.

So what better time to get a refresher on the principles of freedom of assembly, and whether this should extend to everyone regardless of political inclination? BFM talks to Mandeep Singh, former secretariat manager of Bersih 2.0.
