Thousands of pro-Palestinian demonstrators have marched across the Sydney Harbour Bridge despite an objection from New South Wales Premier Chris Minns.

The protest went ahead after the NSW Supreme Court rejected NSW Police’s bid to veto the rally.

Several high-profile figures including Wikileaks founder Julian Assange and former Socceroo Craig Foster joined the march.

The event started with speeches by Jewish journalist Antony Loewenstein and Greens Senator Mehreen Faruqi calling for an immediate end to the war in Gaza.

ABC reporter Nabil Al-Nashar says many attendees are accusing the Israeli government of starving the Gazan population and committing genocide in the enclave.
