On 9 December 2021, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican said that local government elections would not be revived due to the high cost implications. BFM speaks to PJ City Councillor and local government expert Derek Fernandez on why this stance should be reconsidered.

local government through elections will show what an incompetent Federal government Malaysia has that was voted through [questionable] manners, corruption, and on basis of religion/ race. That is why the Federal government will not allow-also the Federal government wont be able to control voting.
