Aside from being the holder of the Tunku Abdul Rahman Chair at the University of Malaya, Prof Shad Saleem Faruqi believes that Malaysia’s Constitution is illuminated by a spirit of accommodation and a vision of shared destiny among the various people and regions of the land.
Till the nineties, the Malaysian community had been a shining example of successful inter-communal living, which has now, sadly, regressed.
Shad believes in the need to revive the spirit of 1957 and 1963 through constitutional literacy and constitutional patriotism. In his TED Talk, he shared his thoughts on how the constitutional patriotism and spirit of those glorious years can knock off boundaries that we have put up over the years and connect bridges of different ideas and beliefs.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organised by a local community.
