Several government agencies in Singapore have been flagged for serious lapses in the latest auditor general’s report. Among 132 audit findings, 25 major cases were uncovered, with lapses spanning key areas such as procurement, contract oversight and revenue management.

Among the issues identified were unaccounted visa fees, mishandled education savings, contract evaluation errors and unreturned payments.

The auditor general’s office said these findings point to weaknesses in internal controls across the public sector.

Meanwhile, possible irregularities in a case has prompted national water agency PUB to make a police report. The auditor general’s office had found suspicious quotes for extra work items totalling close to S$150,000 in a S$6.8m waterscapes project.

Rachel Teng reports.
