According to de facto law minister Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, the Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2021’s unanimous passing in the Dewan Rakyat on 14 December 2021 is a historical moment for Sarawakians and Sabahans as “the amendment would truly give recognition to the demands and special status of Sabah and Sarawak upon forming Malaysia together with Singapore and the Federation of Malaya in the Federal Constitution on 16 September 1963”.
Does this change in the interpretation of the Federation for Sabah and Sarawak represent true equal partnership between the Federation of Malaya and the Borneo states?
Now that the bill gives recognition to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 in the Federal Constitution, what would be the way forward to restore the rights of Sabah and Sarawak in line with the agreement?
