The speaker, the late Dr Edward Said of Columbia University, challenges the notion that Jews have a superior historical claim to the land compared to Arabs.
Contrary to this belief, the speaker asserts that Israelite rule in Palestine, as depicted in the Old Testament, lasted about 200-250 years. He highlights the presence of various other groups, including the Moabites, Jebusites, Canaanites and Philistines, who inhabited Palestine prior to and following this period.
He also underscores the irrationality of focusing on one group’s historical claim to the exclusion of others, given the conflicting religious beliefs about land ownership held by Christianity, Islam and other faiths.
Finally, the speaker unequivocally rejects the notion that historical claims can be used to displace current residents and denies the validity of employing ancient history to justify modern-day possession of land.

If one goes by history then the Native Indians of North America present USA and Canada] should fight the current USA/Canada Governments and get rid of them as all the rest may be descendents of invading Europeans and Migrants? Same may apply to Australia NZ and many other countries. ONE SHOULD LOOK AT THE WORLD AS IT IS TODAY AND NOT CENTURIES AGO AND NOT HISTORY WHICH MAY BE THE MAIN CAUSE OF ONGOING CONFLICTS IN MIDEAST AND OTHER PLACES.
