On 1 July 2020, Shafee Abdullah, Najib’s lead counsel, accused Shahrol Halmi of making a deal to sing like a bird so he wouldn’t be charged for his role in 1MDB. Patrick Teoh presents for the Malaysian Insight.
The lawyer told the court that Shahrol should have been one of the earlier persons to be charged in this case, but he had instead made a deal with the prosecution to incriminate Najib. Shahrol, however, remained composed and simply replied ‘no’ and ‘I disagree’ to the lawyer’s accusations.
