On 16 November 2021, former 1MDB chief finance officer Azmi Tahir testified that former Prime Minister Najib Razak had asked KPMG to close the 1MDB 2013 financial report.
He said Najib told KPMG this right after the audit firm sought an explanation directly from Najib regarding a suspicious 1MDB overseas investment.
Dissatisfied with Najib’s answers, Azmi said KPMG did not close the report after that meeting at Najib’s residence in December 2013.
1MDB then terminated its contract with KPMG and took in Deloitte as its third auditor, he said.
