Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership of the opposition has come into question following the last-minute strategy change to challenge Budget 2021. Is it time for new leadership, or maybe even for the coalition to break up?
BFM speaks to Bridget Welsh, honorary research associate at University of Nottingham’s Asia Research Institute, about this, the divisions in the coalition and Warisan’s frustrations.

If PH is disbanded at this point in time what is the alternative? Warisan was never part of PH. Shafee Apdal can’t be a credible alternative to Anwar. He can’t even defend his government in Sabah. What can he do at the national level?Does he have widespread grassroot support in the peninsula and Sarawak? Furthermore everyone knows he is the boy of Mahathir and Mahathir is deadly against Anwar leading the country. Under this circumstances you can’t expect Shafee to support Anwar. … Anyway the budget has not been passed by parliament yet. Let’s give Anwar a chance. He is the only credible leader who is committed to bring about the much awaited reforms.
Warisan was not part of PH. Why is Shafie so against Anwar?
Is Warisan MPs absence from Parliament during the block votes a slap in the face for Anwar or Muhyiddin?
The PH block votes have held , by and large, so on that basis I will say PH need not be disbanded. But , yes, PH needs to look for a leader beyond Anwar – he seems to have angered both king makers in Sabah and Sarawak,
