After months of delays and poor reasoning, finally the Barisan Nasional/Perikatan Nasional coalition, this time led by Ismail Sabri Yaakob, announced that the reduction of the minimum voting age to 18 would be implemented swiftly.
Law Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar mentioned that the Election Commission would proceed with implementing the lowering of the voting age, as ordered by a High Court, without having to wait for the government to decide if it would appeal against the decision.
On 29 September, the Election Commission notified soon-to-be voters to verify their personal information in October under the pre-registration for the automatic voter registration scheme.
