Anwar Ibrahim finally had an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on the morning of 13 October, three weeks after he first announced he had the support of a “convincing majority” of MPs. However, his bid to become prime minister is far from certain as, after the press conference, it was revealed the Agong would be meeting with the respective political parties to ascertain their support.

Meanwhile, Umno issued a press statement saying it is considering withdrawing its support for Perikatan Nasional. To help us unpack all this, BFM spoke to Bridget Welsh, honorary research associate of the University of Nottingham’s Asia Institute.
