Wong Chen resigned as Subang MP, left PKR and joined Bersama. He explains why he chose to give up a safe seat rather than remain in a governing bloc that had failed to deliver its reform promises.

Why did Pakatan Harapan, despite being the largest bloc with 81 MPs, fail to use its leverage to advance reform and instead follow Umno’s agenda?

The conversation covers his frozen constituency allocations, the separation of the attorney general and public prosecutor roles, procurement reform, asset disclosures, the erosion of ethnic Malay support, Umno-Pas vote consolidation and Bersama’s multiracial strategy.

Wong Chen also discusses Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi, the lessons Bersama drew from contesting Johor and sitting out Negeri Sembilan, and his proposals on anti-corruption enforcement, government contracts, the reform of government-linked firms, the ringgit, the Goods and Services Tax, and e-invoicing.

He closes by explaining why he wants another chance in Subang and whether progressive multiracial politics still has a future in Malaysia.
