P. Ramakrishnan was re-elected president of Aliran at the 27th annual general meeting of the human rights group today. The AGM also elected Dr. Francis Loh as honorary secretary, Dr. Mustafa K. Anuar as honorary assistant secretary and Dr. Subramaniam Pillay as honorary treasurer. Also elected to the executive committee were Gan Kong Hwee, Dr. Prema Deveraj, Andrew Wong, Dr. Maznah Mohamad, Dr. Yeoh Seng Guan, Dr. Andrew Aeria, Dr. Molly Lee, Sarajun Hoda bin Abdul Hassan, Dr. Khoo Boo Teik, Anil Netto and Ong Eu Soon. The AGM also reiterated its stand that the ISA be abolished and that all the ISA detainees -- including the nine allegedly involved in the so-called Islamic militant organisation, whose detention orders were recently extended without just cause -- be released or brought to trial immediately.
